Purvottar Sampark Kranti Express is one of the Sampark Kranti Express trains of Indian Railways. It connects New Delhi, the capital city of India to Guwahati, the capital and largest city of Assam. The train is named as Purvottar Express since it connects New Delhi with the north east region of the country, known as Poorvottar in Hindi.
Numbered as 2501/2502, this train takes approximately 31 hours to complete a distance of 1980 km. En route it stops at Goalpara Town, New Bongaigaon, New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Allahabad, and Kanpur in both up and down journey, with technical halts at Mughal Sarai and Barauni. This train belongs to Northeast Frontier Railway zone of the Indian Railways.
The train consists of one composite 1A/2A coach (HA-1), one 2A coach (A-1), two 3A (B-1/B-2), nine sleeper, one dining car, three general coaches and two SLR coaches. Sometimes one or two high-capacity parcel vans may be attached.
The train is hauled by a Guwahati-Mughal Sarai [[Locomotives in India#Diesel traction WDP-4 of Silliguri diesel loco Shed/WDM-3A of Gonda diesel loco shed or Lucknow shed/twin WDM-2A belonging to New Guwahati diesel Loco Shed. From Mughal Sarai-New Delhi, mostly WAP 5 of Ghaziabad Electric Loco Shed/WAP 7 of Ghaziabad Electric Loco Shed/WAP 4 from Mughal Sarai, Kanpur or Ghaziabad is used. But the problem of this train is though being a superfast train plying between Guwahati and New Delhi, its travel time is drastically long. If it would have taken 31 hours, then undoubtedly it is a very good train, at least after Rajdhani Express, it is probably the best train to connect the North-Eastern Region with the capital of India. But the train usually takes more than 40 hours enroute both up and down direction, making the passengers' journey miserable, thanks to Lalu Prasad's state Bihar and Mayawatiji's state Uttar Pradesh, where to cover a distance of 1282 km, the train needs more than 30 hours sometimes, even though the whole route is electrified and double.
